What did you do this past week?

I made new dishes at home. I made quesadillas and I was proud of them. And of course, I played some volleyball throughout the week. Most importantly, I completed my first internship application of this semester which was exciting! I am now waiting for the results.

What’s in your way?

I feel like my schoolwork is going to ramp up now. My classes with professor Downing have passed the introductory phase and we are starting to get into bigger, more involved projects, specifically in SWE. Also, I’ve yet to have any major exams, and they surely will come and bring destruction with them.

What will you do next week?

I will be working with my SWE partners to design our web app for the class, which will be both difficult and exciting. I also will be reviewing in my other classes of chemistry and biology as tests are around the corner. I should apply for more internship positions, however, I foresee that I will have a busy week with homework.

What was your experience with exceptions, voting, and strcmp?

Lecture coverage of exceptions was nothing too foreign. It was very nice to go over it nonetheless and strengthen that foundational knowledge and also because I don’t have C++ experience. Voting is very cool to me, and going over how the algorithm functions on the daily quiz were very helpful and insightful. Strcmp wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, as we have had char* logic before in CS architecture. It was a great review exercise to get me back into the rhythm of using pointer logic for C++.

What made you happy this week?

I was happy that I found another way to use the chicken I cook, other than just eating it with rice. I now can put them in quesadillas.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

Hackerrank is a great site to practice coding skills. Professor Downing uses it to administer coding exercises (such as the strcmp exercise we had on Friday) and will use it to administer his tests as well. It’s a great resource to get some coding practice by completing the countless coding challenges on the site.
